Payroll Manager
Salary: £25,000-£32,000k
Location: Yeovil
The Payroll Manager will be responsible for the management of the payroll team ensuring that staff are providing an accurate and high quality service to clients. You will grow and develop client relationships, bring in new business, and deal with escalated queries professionally and promptly. You will have a thorough understanding of payroll legislation and will be able to provide advice to managers and clients as required.
Key responsibilities will include overseeing the entire process from start to finish including all manual calculations, statutory deductions, through to year end reporting. The role requires the successful candidate to have experience of training, mentoring and developing payroll staff as well as setting and monitoring the KPI’s for the department.
The role:
Practice and Procedures
• To review the practice, procedures workflow and controls of the payroll department and put in place any changes that may be needed to improve efficiency
• To head up the transition for importing of data for 20 plus employees – design SAGE reporting templates for client completion for direct SAGE import
• To review specialist payrolls efficiency and reporting methods e.g. Academies
• To prepare PIIDs
• To run parallel systems for larger payrolls and prepare conversion to SAGE payroll reporting/test live data
• To liaise with the Tax Partner, concerning PAYE investigations
• To manage National Insurance Holiday scheme
• To process payrolls if payroll cover short
Real Time Information (RTI)
• To liaise with SAGE with the move to RTI
• To ensure processes in place in readiness for RTI
• To manage RTI pilot with effect from November 2012 for selected payrolls
• To manage CIS reporting under RTI
Payroll Bureau
• To manage the process for AG to become a BACS bureau
Universal Credits
• To up-skill regarding the universal credit requirements which will replace tax credits between 2013 and 2017
Must have knowledge and/or understanding of:
• SAGE Payroll
• Payroll legislation
• Report writing skills
• Exposure to large payrolls (500 plus)
• Good IT and payroll skills
• CIS schemes
• CSA
• Awareness of Auto-Enrolment
• Awareness of Real Time Information
• Salary sacrifice schemes
• BACS and manual payments
