Payroll Project Manager

Salary: £45K
Region: South West
1 year fixed-term to April 2013
Oxford
Oxfam staff work tirelessly to fight poverty all over the world. There are thousands of employees. And because they’re located wherever they’re needed most, we need to make sure their wages arrive in the right place at the right time. That’s one of the reasons we’re planning to implement a brand new and highly effective central payroll system. And why we’re looking for a talented project manager to deliver it.
The role
The payroll replacement project is a major investment for Oxfam and of critical importance, with the new system to be implemented and ready to go live on April 1st 2013. It’s a complex project, and an explicit deadline. As Project Manager you’ll be extremely focussed as you manage activities and resources, monitor the budget and oversee the system roll out from end to end; resolving operational and technical problems along the way. Building and managing good working relationships with HR, Payroll and IT teams as well as external suppliers, will be key, as you ensure that the project plan is implemented and achieves its targets and goals. It’ll be down to you to communicate the impact the new system will have on each area, influencing the adoption of new procedures and making sure everyone is pulling in the same direction to bring the entire project together successfully.
What we’re looking for
You’ll certainly have experience in the implementation of a large and complex payroll system, not to mention a technical, and ideally practical, understanding of running a payroll. But more than this you’ll have a good understanding of the links between HR and payroll and the issues they can create. A strong project manager, who’s both analytical and a good problem solver, you’re also flexible and adaptable, and not afraid to be hands-on. An effective communicator, you’ll have no problem building and managing relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Equally important you’re motivated by deadlines, targets and the challenge of this exciting project.
About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. And it’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. At Oxfam we believe that with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
