Magazine | HMRC sponsors new TV series ‘The Business Inspector’
Small businesses are to be the subject of a new TV series which has been paid for by HM Revenue & Customs and which aims to improve business processes and procedures.
HMRC will not feature in the show, and Channel Five will retain full editorial control. However, HMRC is a major sponsor to the programme called ‘The Business Inspector’ a docu-soap style show and four part series. It has contributed £370,000 towards the budget which, it hopes will help to raise awareness among small businesses about keeping good financial records and the dangers and pitfalls you face if you fail to do so.
The sponsorship adheres to the Cabinet Office sponsorship guidelines and - as with all Government communications activity - is subject to strict propriety guidance.
Stephen Banyard, business customer unit director at HMRC said: ‘We know that most small businesses want to get their tax right. But we also know too that failure to take reasonable care costs the Exchequer over £6bn a year, with major cause being poor record keeping.
‘We also want small businesses to realise the benefits to them - such as improved cash flow - of taking better care of their records and paperwork.’
The series will be broadcast weekly on Channel Five at 8.00pm from 10 March 2010.
