Legislation to limit unpaid work experience 10 June 2016

Unpaid work experience will be limited to four weeks under new legislation going through parliament.

The Unpaid Work Experience (Prohibition) Bill will amend the National Minimum Wage Act 1998. The regulations will ensure people over compulsory school age will be eligible for the National Minimum Wage when undertaking work experience with the same employer for a continuous or non-continuous period exceeding four weeks.

The bill has received its first reading in the House of Lords and will extend to the whole of the UK when it passes into law.
