'Emergency pause' plans in place for auto-enrolment 27 November 2015

The government has drafted plans for an “emergency pause” in auto-enrolment if demand gets out of control, it has emerged.

A recent report on auto-enrolment from the National Audit Office (NAO) states: “The [Department of Work and Pensions] programme team reviews data, providing early warnings of problems ahead, and has held contingency planning workshops.

“As a last resort it has set out an ‘emergency pause’ procedure to apply if the programme was unable to cope with unexpected increases in demand or changes in behaviour. And the Department, The Pensions Regulator and NEST are continuing to develop the range of responses they might introduce if demand rises.”
