RTI pilot seeks to boost participants

An additional 1,300 employers are wanted to join the Real-Time Information (RTI) pilot next year.

There are already 300 companies signed up for a pilot starting in April 2012, but HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is hoping to get additional employers on board to join in July 2012.

Stephen Banyard, acting director general for personal tax, said implementing RTI by October 2013 is an ambitious but achievable target.

“We have considered all the technical and practical issues, and are confident we have the capacity to increase the pilot scheme by more than 300% next year,” he said.

HMRC wants companies to join the pilot through their payroll software providers, which should already be using a platform that is part of the scheme. However, employers that are using bespoke software should contact HMRC directly.

In order to participate in the pilot extension, software developers will need to confirm if they wish to join the extended pilot in July, including details of the product they wish to pilot.

Any software developer interested in joining the pilot scheme must register its interest by Wednesday, 30 November, by emailing SDSTeam@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
