IPP gets Chartered Status

The Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP) has announced that the Privy Council has this week granted the IPP a Royal Charter, meaning that the IPP will become the CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) on 1 January 2011.

The Institute has been striving towards attaining Chartered Status for a number of years to ensure that professionals working in the payroll industry receive full recognition.

Mr Lindsay Melvin, Chief Executive of the IPP, said: “We are absolutely delighted that our bid for Chartered Status has been approved by the Privy Council. I hope that by accomplishing this, it will further help in raising the profile of payroll as a profession, and not just a function that ‘pushes a button once a month / week’.

“Attaining Chartered Status provides the ideal opportunity for the Institute to demonstrate the valuable contributions that payroll professionals provide not only within business but also to UK society as a whole. I hope that this achievement finally gives the payroll industry the recognition and respect it deserves.”

The granting of Chartered Status results from an initiative started by former Chief Executive Maurice Cheng.

Full coverage of this story will appear in this month’s Payroll World Magazine.
